Benefits, disadvantages and risks for VBAC?

My first daughter was born naturally, my second was a c-section (failure to progress) and I am currently almost 8 weeks pregnant with my third. My husband is under the impression that I'll have to have another c-section but I would HATE to have to re live that. Are there any mothers out there who have had a successful vaginal birth after having a prior c-section? Thanks!
