Why did the Reformation Happen Catholics?

Was it not because of the corruption in the church? Or was this deemed "infallible". How come so many popes in the church who were "infallible" were condemned by your very same church? I know the history if you do not. Much like the pedophile priests who did what they did and covered up initially until the media exposed it all, only then did the church acknowledge wrong doing.
